Day by Day Plan

Day 1

Fly to Mekelle & Trek to Abune Yemata Guh

Fly from Addis Ababa to Mekelle and drive to Hawzen, the gateway to the Tigray rock-hewn churches. Begin a guided hike and climb to Abune Yemata Guh, famous for its dramatic cliff location and panoramic views. Experience the unique ascent and explore the ancient church with its well-preserved wall paintings.

Overnight stay in Hawzen.

Day 2

Drive to Axum & Explore Ancient Heritage

Drive from Hawzen to Axum through scenic northern landscapes. Visit the historic sites of Axum, including ancient stelae fields and archaeological remains. Explore the sacred Church of St. Mary of Zion, one of Ethiopia’s most important religious sites.

Overnight stay in Axum.

Day 3

Return to Addis Ababa

Enjoy a relaxed morning in Axum with time for a short walk or additional visits. Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight. Fly back to Addis Ababa. Arrive and end your northern Ethiopia experience.
