Day by Day Plan
Day 1 — Addis Ababa → Bahir Dar
Fly to Bahir Dar & Lake Tana
Take a domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar and begin the journey around Lake Tana. Visit the lakeside area and, depending on arrival time, explore the city or take a boat excursion on Lake Tana to visit historic island monasteries. The day is kept flexible around the confirmed flight schedule.

Day 2 — Bahir Dar
Lake Tana, Monasteries & Blue Nile Falls
Continue exploring Bahir Dar and the Lake Tana region. Visit historic religious sites and learn about the traditions and artwork preserved inside the region's churches and monasteries. If seasonal conditions and access are suitable, continue toward the Blue Nile Falls. The appearance of the falls varies significantly between the rainy and dry seasons.

Day 3 — Bahir Dar → Gondar
Drive to Gondar & Royal Heritage
Travel by road from Bahir Dar to Gondar, passing through changing highland scenery. In Gondar, explore the Royal Enclosure and learn about the city's role as an important imperial capital. Continue to other historic sites as time allows, including Debre Berhan Selassie Church, known for its distinctive ceiling paintings.

Day 4 — Gondar → Simien Mountains
Into the Simien Mountains
Leave Gondar and drive toward Simien Mountains National Park. As the road climbs, the landscape changes from cultivated highlands to dramatic mountain scenery. Settle into your accommodation and use the afternoon for a first nature and landscape experience, with opportunities to encounter gelada monkeys in suitable areas.

Day 5 — Simien Mountains
Mountain Landscapes & Gelada Monkeys
Spend the day exploring selected viewpoints and accessible areas of Simien Mountains National Park. Look for gelada troops while taking in the park's deep valleys, cliffs, and highland plateaus. The park reaches very high elevations, so temperatures can be cool and walking at altitude may feel more demanding than the distance suggests.

Day 6 — Simien Mountains → Lalibela
Highland Road Journey to Lalibela
Travel toward Lalibela through the Ethiopian highlands. This is one of the longer road sections of the itinerary, so the journey itself becomes part of the experience, with changing landscapes and rural communities along the way. Arrive in Lalibela and settle in for the evening.

Day 7 — Lalibela
Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela
Spend a full day exploring Lalibela's famous rock-hewn churches with a knowledgeable local guide. Learn how the churches were carved directly into the rock and understand their continuing religious importance to Ethiopian Orthodox Christians. Allow enough time to explore rather than rushing from church to church.

Day 8 — Lalibela → Addis Ababa
Final Lalibela Morning & Flight to Addis Ababa
Use the morning for a final visit or relaxed exploration of Lalibela before transferring to the airport for your domestic flight back to Addis Ababa, subject to the confirmed flight schedule. On arrival, continue to your hotel, onward connection, or airport depending on your departure plans.
